In this webinar, we will discuss the top ten dietary strategies and the current national recommendations for reducing atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk. We will address recent controversies for dietary patterns, saturated fats, omega-6 polyunsaturated fats, dietary cholesterol and eggs, ketogenic diets, intermittent fasting, red meat, and processed meat. We will examine the clinical and cost benefit of medical nutrition therapy by RDNs in patients with Dyslipidemia and cardiometabolic risk factors.

Geeta Sikand is Director of Nutrition, Preventive Cardiology Program at the University of California, Irvine and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine (Cardiology Division). Geeta is a registered dietitian &  Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a clinical lipid specialist and Fellow of the National Lipid Association (NLA). Ms. Sikand serves on the NLA Board of Directors.

Ms Sikand serves as a Cardiovascular (CV) Nutrition Content Expert for the Academy’s CV Health and Well-being dietetic practice group. Ms. Sikand is Co-Chair of the NLA Nutrition Task Force and co-author of the “2015 NLA Nutrition Recommendations for the Management of Dyslipidemia.” Ms. Sikand is a coauthor of the Academy’s Evidenced Based Recommendations for Disorders of Lipid Metabolism and serves on the Board of Editors of the Academy’s Nutrition Care Manual.   

Ms. Sikand’s area of research is dietary strategies for cardiovascular risk reduction and beneficial outcomes of medical nutrition therapy for patients with dyslipidemia and cardiometabolic risk factors.

Ms. Sikand has authored many textbook chapters and peer reviewed articles in cardiovascular nutrition. Ms. Sikand is the recipient of multiple awards including the Academy’s 2019 Medallion Award, 2018 Excellence in Cardiovascular Practice Award and the 2020 NLA President’s Service Award.
