CV-Well Webinar (sponsored by Hass Avocado Board): How Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep, and Social Connection Complete the Well-being Puzzle

      Thursday, April 21, 2022
      1 PM - 2 PM (CT)

      Speaker:
Dr. David Sabgir, Cardiologist, CEO/Founder of Walk with a Doc
      CPEU: 1

According to the CDC, about 80 percent of deaths from premature heart disease and stroke are preventable with lifestyle changes. When Ohio-based cardiologist Dr. David Sabgir had the realization that only 5 percent of his patients were meeting physical activity recommendations and he wasn’t enacting meaningful behavior change in his practice, he decided to change his approach.

In this webinar, you’ll hear from Dr. Sabgir about his grassroots efforts to encourage movement and health education and how this has grown and impacted positive change in communities across the country. Attendees will be presented with scientific evidence showing how exercise, nutrition, sleep, and social connection all have a positive impact on preventable risk factors for heart disease, along with actionable tips to share with clients.

Dr. David Sabgir is a full-time cardiologist in Columbus, OH and the Founding CEO of Walk with a Doc, an international nonprofit with a mission to inspire communities around the world through movement and conversation. Walk with a Doc started in 2005 as David realized how critical physical activity was for his patients and how much it was lacking. While the program has now spread to over 550 communities in 37 countries, Dr. Sabgir continues to personally invite his patients to walk alongside him as a local Walk with a Doc leader. David has been honored to be a CNN Hero and to see Walk with a Doc featured in print and broadcast media all over the world. The program has evolved to focus on not only physical activity but also nutrition education and social connectedness. Nutraceuticals for Lowering LDL-C: A Review of the Evidence

Hosted live on September 1, 2019

Note: CPE credits are not available.

The global nutraceutical market (including both functional foods and dietary supplements) is expected to reach $578.23 billion by 2025, and a search for "cholesterol-lowering supplements" on an online shopping site yields over 600 results. Patients are seeking out natural methods of treating hypercholesterolemia, and dietitians must be equipped to support them with evidence-based recommendations. While not intended to replace pharmacological therapy, many nutraceuticals can help achieve treatment targets, particularly in patients with mild to moderate lipid elevations, statin-intolerant patients, and patients on pharmacological treatment but not quite at goal. This webinar will review the evidence behind common LDL-lowering nutraceuticals, focusing on those with well-designed studies to demonstrate their efficacy. Upon completion, you will be able to identify nutraceuticals to consider, either alone or in conjunction with pharmaceuticals, in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, along with dosing information, possible side effects, and anticipated LDL-C improvements.
